About
Kristen Novak lives in the Washington, D.C., metro area where she works as a Multimedia Developer at Cortina Productions, specializing in using interactive media to develop kiosk and web experiences for museums and similar clientele. She also teaches as a member of the adjunct faculty at the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism and is actively involved with the University’s News21 program.
Kristen’s specialty has been with Adobe Flash/ActionScript, but she uses whatever medium is best-suited to tell the story. Her ever-growing skill set currently extends to CSS, HTML, JavaScript, and Java. She also has experience working with photo and video as both a content gatherer and producer.
Kristen grew up in Baton Rouge, La., before moving to Chapel Hill, N.C., to attend the University of North Carolina. Despite being a math and science aficionado, she turned to journalism in order to develop web design and development skills. She has since fallen for multimedia storytelling and developed a strong interest in data visualization.
Kristen’s hobbies include art, photography, architecture, running, biking, hiking, rock climbing, volleyball and softball. She loves to spend time outside with friends and hopes to continue putting ticks on her “places to visit” list.
