Flash Forward

Flash Forward is pretty cool so far…although I might choose the word interesting instead. It’s always a strange situation to come from a different industry…I’ll have more soon, but I am EXHAUSTED!

En Route:

Saw the Rockies (be nice, it’s from a plane):

New Media turned 10…but did anyone notice?

Yeah, me neither…I’m a little too focused on my trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras!!!

But if you are interested, here’s some great reading:

"Squirt" Guns

Posted in Uncategorized on July 11th, 2007 by knov – Be the first to comment

Slate.com took a look at “Top Gun” for your backyard.

For any other water war aficionado like myself, this was not only the highlight of my day but also a great review (with video and all) of what has become of the measly squirt guns that I grew up with.

Slate.com reviewed six water guns: Hornet, Spin Blaster, Sneak Attack, Tarantula, Arctic Blast and Stream Machine. They lightheartedly poke fun at these names…I mean, when I was a kid it was a squirt fun that shot about 5 feet if that…and your choices were red, blue or green. But today’s water weapons are ranked on Strength, Ease of Use, and Fun and range in price from $4.99 to $19.99 and higher I’m sure. Do they even sell little rinky-dink water guns anymore?

Moving on…check out the video. It’s funny…But I am still partial to inflatable alligators and slip ‘n’ slides! More on that later…but here’s the link:

Top Gun: The best weapon for water wars

This is a nicely composed piece using some good apps from washingtonpost.com. Too bad it’s impossible to find on their website.

Two other crits:
1. The graphics appears on top of the panoramas…well part of it…
2. It’s impossible to find the back button in the top left corner…who said that a nice close button in the upper right was a bad idea? It’s only the most obvious!

Other than that, I love it…Newspapers, etc have finally come to understand multimedia immersion. I mean, we finally get the idea behind multimedia as merging media rather than just having things link out to something else…yay for combining graphics and panos/photos!

Why can’t I work there?!?!?! Anyone want to hire me?!?!? Come on Tom Kennedy, pick me!

It makes me very, very sad to not be doing news right now. I’ve only been in museum world for 5 months, and I am dying to get back to news! At least the Newseum will be cool…
